Rotary Screw Air Compressor ( DP5PM I PM Series )
What Is a Rotary Screw Air Compressor?
A rotary screw compressor generates compressed air using two precision-engineered helical rotors – a male and a female rotor – that mesh together and rotate in opposite directions inside a sealed housing. As the rotors turn, air is drawn into the chamber, progressively trapped in the reducing space between the rotor lobes, and compressed continuously until it is released at the outlet.
Unlike a piston-driven machine, a screw type compressor produces air in a smooth, continuous flow rather than in pulses. This design has fewer moving parts subject to wear, runs quieter, and delivers a stable air pressure that is well suited to industries running multiple shifts or continuous processes.
How a Screw Air Compressor Works
The working principle of a screw air compressor can be broken into three simple stages:
1. Intake
Atmospheric air is drawn into the compression chamber through an inlet valve as the rotors begin to separate at one end.
2. Compression
As the meshing rotors turn, the trapped volume of air is squeezed into an increasingly smaller space, raising both its pressure and temperature. In oil-injected models, lubricating oil is introduced during this stage to seal clearances, cool the air, and lubricate the rotors – which is why our Vibrant Series is engineered with three-stage oil separation to keep oil carry-over to a minimum.
3. Discharge
Once the trapped air reaches the discharge end of the rotor housing, it is released into the receiver tank, after which it typically passes through an air-oil separator, cooler, and filtration stage before reaching your plant’s pipeline.
Rotary Screw vs. Reciprocating Compressors
A common question we get from first-time buyers is how a rotary screw compressor compares with the traditional reciprocating (piston) type:
- Duty cycle: Screw compressors are built for continuous, 24/7 operation, while reciprocating units suit intermittent, lower-duty applications.
- Air output: The continuous rotor motion keeps the compressed air supply steady, without the pulsing common to piston-driven units.
- Maintenance: Fewer wear-prone parts like valves and piston rings mean lower long-term maintenance needs.
- Noise levels: Screw compressors generally run quieter, making them more suitable for indoor factory floors.
- Energy efficiency: Direct-drive and variable-speed screw models can adapt output to real-time demand, cutting wasted power.
That said, both technologies have their place, and at Deep Pneumatics we manufacture both reciprocating and rotary screw ranges, so our recommendation is always based on your actual air demand rather than a one-size-fits-all pitch.
Our Range of Screw Air Compressors
As one of the established screw air compressor manufacturers in Gujarat, Deep Pneumatics offers a range built specifically for Indian operating conditions – high ambient temperatures, dusty environments, and variable power quality:
- Vibrant Series (Oil Injected, Fixed Speed): Direct-drive 1:1 screw airends, seamless internal piping, large combi-coolers, and an intelligent controller, available from 7.5 kW to 250 kW with outputs from 45 CFM to 1557 CFM.
- ATD Series (Tank Mounted with Dryer & Filters): A compact, plug-and-start package that integrates the compressor, receiver tank, refrigerated dryer, and filters in one footprint – ideal for smaller factory setups with limited floor space.
- iPM Series (PM Motor with Variable Speed Drive): Permanent-magnet motor technology paired with a VSD to match air output to actual demand, reducing energy waste during partial-load running.
- Two Stage Screw Air Compressors: Designed for applications demanding higher efficiency at higher pressures.
- Low Pressure and Oil Free Screw Air Compressors: Purpose-built for applications such as pharmaceuticals, food processing, and other environments where air purity is non-negotiable.
Genuine Screw Compressor Parts Matter
The performance of any screw compressor depends heavily on the quality of its internal components. Original airends, separator elements, filters, and bearings are engineered to exact tolerances – using substandard screw compressor parts can lead to overheating, oil carry-over, and premature airend failure. As a manufacturer, Deep Pneumatics also supports customers through our after-market services team, offering genuine spares, scheduled maintenance plans, and installation guidance so your compressor keeps running at its rated efficiency for years.
